About Hannibal Tractor

In March of 1962 Everett Carlson Sr. and his wife Elva Carlson decided to purchase a Minneapolis Moline dealership in Dow, Illinois. Everett was a part-time farmer and mechanic at an International dealership in Jersey County in Illinois at the time. Their son Roger Carlson, who pushed his parents into purchasing the dealership, soon joined the business in September of 1962. The newly acquired dealership represented the Minneapolis Moline, New Idea and New Holland line of equipment.

In the fall of 1974, the Minneapolis Moline brand was dropped by the White Motor Company. Our dealership was forced to close our doors and the Oliver dealer in Dow took care of the White Motor Company brands. In an effort to keep their dreams of operating a full-service agricultural dealership alive, Everett Sr., Elva, and Roger decided to buy Walter Chatten Company in Quincy, Illinois in early 1975. Walter Chatten Company was also a Minneapolis Moline dealership at that time along with White, Sperry-New Holland, and New Idea. So the move fit. The dealership was located at 10th and Broadway in Quincy, Illinois in 1975.

Everett Carlson Jr came into the business in 1976 after the move to Quincy. Everett and Roger would eventually end up buying Everett Sr. and Elva out and owning Walter Chatten Company. Roger worked in sales, Elva did the book keeping and payroll, Everett was a mechanic and Jr was the parts manager. Roger's eldest son Lance came into the business in the early 80's as a salesman. Peggy Carlson, Roger's daughter, also came into the business and helped with the computer software, secretarial duties, and parts as well!

In 1985 Great River Ford in Quincy went bankrupt. This opened the doors for us to move our dealership to its current location at 24th and Spring Lake Road. This is how Walter Chatten Company took on the Ford tractor line. It ended up being the perfect marriage for what would later be a merger between New Holland and Ford. Ford bought Sperry New Holland in 1986.

Let us fast forward to November of 2008. Lance Carlson buys the business from Roger and Everett Jr. The company was rebranded as Quincy Tractor, LLC. Since the buyout, Lance has expanded Quincy Tractor's coverage with representing more product lines and acquisitions of other businesses.

In March of 2010, Quincy Tractor, LLC purchases Bowling Green Equipment in Bowling Green, Missouri- now rebranded as Bowling Green Tractor. All former employees are kept in place and their offerings are enhanced. We finished remodelling and building a brand new service shop in Bowling Green in 2016 so that this location could better serve their customers.

In July of 2011, Quincy Tractor, LLC purchases Howard Bier Inc. in Hannibal, MO. This location was a Kinze dealership. Buying this location opened the door for the Kinze line to be acquired by the Quincy location. This dealership was rebranded as Hannibal Tractor. We have since moved the business less than a mile west of the old location and built a brand new facility. We have added the Bobcat, MacDon, and other lines that our stores represent to this location to round out our offerings.

In September of 2012, a unique and wonderful opportunity presented itself to Lance. Due to his involvement in New Holland Dealer Council, Lance found himself making friends and comparing business models with other New Holland dealers. One of which was Midwest Tractor Sales. Don Clark, Mike Cripe and Lance became good friends. Quincy Tractor and MTS decided to partner together to open a brand new store back in Jersey County Illinois! It is branded as Midwest Tractor Sales Jerseyville. This opportunity allowed the Carlson family to put a store back where we started. It is also a brand new facility that represents the same companies our other stores do.

In July of 2016, Lance was able to acquire Green Hills Ag in Brookfield, Missouri. This store acquisition allowed us to diversify into a new market and brought the Agco family of machinery into the mix. This was a bucket list location for Lance ever since his hunting days at Swan Lake Wildlife Refuge in Sumner, MO. We have added great supplementary lines to Brookfield's offering to make this location a full-line agricultural supplier of equipment, parts, and service.
